We Have Launched a Low Cost Therapy Service in Dublin

We have recently launched a new low cost therapy service at the Other clinic, offering sessions in Dublin for €40.

This is something we have wanted to introduce for some time. We regularly hear from people who have been thinking about beginning therapy but cannot manage the usual cost of private sessions.

The decision to seek therapy rarely arrives at a financially convenient moment. It may come while someone is already dealing with changes at work, a relationship ending, the arrival of a child, a bereavement or the strain of trying to keep daily life moving.

In Dublin, the ordinary cost of rent, childcare, transport and groceries can make regular private therapy difficult to sustain. A person may genuinely want to begin, yet find themselves postponing it month after month, or even year after year.

Our low cost therapy service has been created for people in that position.

What our low cost therapy service offers

Sessions cost €40 and are provided by carefully selected trainee therapists who are undertaking significant postgraduate clinical studies.

Our trainee therapists work within the professional setting of the clinic and receive ongoing clinical supervision as part of their training. They have chosen to undertake the serious and demanding work of becoming psychotherapists, including the academic, clinical and personal commitments involved.

The fee is reduced, but the clinical responsibility is the same.

People sometimes worry that working with a trainee therapist means receiving a simplified or less thoughtful form of therapy. In practice, therapists at this stage of training are often deeply engaged with their clinical work. They are studying, attending supervision and thinking carefully about what takes place in each session.

Who is the service for?

Low cost places are limited and are reserved for people who are under financial pressure and would not otherwise be able to afford standard private therapy fees.

The service may be suitable if the cost of regular private therapy has prevented you from beginning or continuing therapy.

It may not be appropriate where there is a high or immediate risk of harm, or where a person requires emergency, psychiatric or more intensive clinical support. The low cost therapy service is not a crisis service.

An initial conversation can help establish whether this form of therapy is suitable for your circumstances.

Beginning low cost therapy in Dublin

There is no requirement to know exactly what you want to say before making contact.

You may have a specific problem that has brought you to therapy. You may also have reached a point where something needs to change, without yet knowing what that change should look like.

Both are valid places to begin.

To find out more about availability and book a session, visit our low cost therapy page or contact the clinic directly.
