LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy

Counselling for LGBTQ+ issues, sometimes relating to gender identity and sexual orientation.

Let’s talk about it.

many shapes and forms

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and + Therapy

Sexuality and gender can be difficult to negotiate at the best of times. Both are equally important for identity but also equally filled with uncertainty and doubt.

What makes a man? What makes a real man? Am I desired? Am I accepted? If I reveal my sexuality will I be rejected for it?

There’s no manual for gender or sexuality. What defines them is largely unspoken, involves many contradictions and is non-binary.

LGBTQ+ Related Issues

The question of sexuality & gender can be excruciating for some, leading to all sorts of anguish.

Decades of stigma and discrimination can make matters worse. A great deal of shame, guilt and inhibition can be experienced as a result.

Our counselling & psychotherapy aims to work through the unique experience of each individual.

How Can Therapy Help for LGBTQ+ Issues?

For LGBTQ+ people, suffering is often shaped not only by what’s going on internally, but by what you’ve had to face externally – being judged, misunderstood, watched, sexualised, dismissed, or required to explain yourself.

Sometimes it’s the obvious experiences. Sometimes it’s the quieter ones: holding your tongue, scanning for safety, second-guessing how you come across, or feeling you have to manage other people’s reactions.

Therapy can give you a place where you don’t have to edit yourself. A place to speak plainly about identity, desire, relationships, family, faith, work, and belonging – without being reduced to a label.

Over time, the work can help you make sense of what you’ve lived through, loosen it’s grip, and find a different way of being with yourself and with others.

Our Approach to LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy

We offer LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy that treats each person as singular. Rather than making assumptions or applying a one-size-fits-all model, we aim to create a space where experience can be spoken about openly, thoughtfully, and without judgement.

Our work is attentive to the complexity of identity, relationships, desire, anxiety, and belonging, while remaining centred on the individual rather than the category alone.
