Helping you understand and work through the emotional roots of self-doubt, criticism, and feelings of inadequacy.

Let’s talk about it.

many shapes of self-worth

Understanding Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem can take many forms, and is always unique to each person.

For some, it appears as constant self-criticism or the sense of never being “enough.”

For others, it shows up as perfectionism, indecision, or difficulty accepting love and praise.

These experiences are deeply personal. Each person’s relationship to confidence, value, and failure develops from their own history – from the messages they’ve received and the expectations they’ve carried.

Therapy provides a space to explore these patterns, to understand how they took shape, and to rewrite their affect.

What lies beneath low self-esteem?

Feelings of worthlessness or inadequacy rarely arise from nowhere.

They are often linked to early experiences of shame, comparison, or unmet emotional needs.

Sometimes, harsh self-judgment is a defence against deeper feelings – anger, grief, or fear of rejection.

The inner critic can function like armour: painful, but familiar and protective.

Therapy helps uncover what that inner voice is trying to keep safe, and begins the process of working through the beliefs that limit how you see yourself.

Speak to a Therapist
transforming self-criticism

How does therapy help for low self-esteem?

Counselling offers a safe and consistent space to speak freely – to explore how you came to see yourself the way you do.

By putting these feelings into words, you begin not only to understand them but to work through their emotional roots.

As old patterns are recognised and softened, self-acceptance can begin to grow.
Confidence emerges not from effort or affirmation, but from a new relationship with yourself – one grounded in understanding and compassion.

Our psychotherapists work with care and depth, helping you to rediscover confidence that feels real and self-owned.
